Cosmetologists thrive on creativity but need technical skills to be successful. Seminole County Public Schools'Cosmetology Programs can help turn your artistic passion into a beautiful career with help from experienced instructors who believe in a hands-on approach to learning.

This sequential program helps students build a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare them for employment. The content includes communication, leadership, human relations, safe and efficient work practices and Florida cosmetology laws and rules.

Many of the credits earned are accepted at post-secondary cosmetology schools.

Cosmetology is offered at Lake Brantley High School and Lake Howell High School and does not have transfer options available. However, both schools offer after school classes that are open to all high school students.

Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts courses prepare students for employment or advanced training in the food service industry. The ProStart curriculum, developed and supported by the National Restaurant Association, guides students through basic food skills, safety and sanitation, recipe creation and conversion, equipment and tools, nutrition and much more. Students will learn about the myriad of career options available to those with culinary training. Students will also gain hands-on experience in how a restaurant operates while connecting with industry professionals and working towards certifications.

The exciting and diverse world of Culinary Arts can take you anywhere in the world -- and your training can begin in high school. The Culinary Arts sequence of courses can be the best first step for an aspiring chef, restaurant manager, or baker.

The Culinary Arts program is offered at Lake Howell High School and Winter Springs High School and does not have transfer options available. However, both schools offer after school classes that are open to all high school students.

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education

Do you love working with children? Do you still enjoy playing in water or getting messy using tempera paints? Students with an interest in working with children or those who see themselves becoming a teacher or child care worker are perfect candidates for pursuing Early Childhood Education courses.

In the first year of Early Childhood Education, students are trained in the 40 hour Florida Department of Children and Families Child Care Facilities courses, which are mandated for employment in any child care facility.

Students participating in the program have the opportunity to put the theory learned in level one to practice with children at preschools located on high school campuses throughout the district. Under the guidance of the master teacher, upper level students create lessons, design learning-through-play activities, manage rotations and facilitate individual and group projects.

Early Childhood Education is offered at Hagerty High School, Lake Brantley High School, Lake Howell High School, Lake Mary High School, Lyman High School, and Oviedo High School. This program does not have a transfer option available.

Hospitality and Tourism

The hospitality industry is one of Florida's most dynamic industries and continues to grow year after year. Each year, travel and tourism employers around the world pay more than $1.6 trillion in wages and salaries and create 12.5 million new jobs. Beginning salaries depend on the employee's skills, education and job level at a hotel, restaurant, tourism office, recreation facility, amusement park or attraction site.

In addition to working with career-focused curriculum and collaborative projects, Hospitality & Tourism students gain critical career knowledge through a series of work-based learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. These activities include job shadowing, role playing, mock interviews, resume writing workshops, competitions and field trips.

Hospitality and Tourism is offered at Winter Springs High School and does not have a transfer option available.

Teaching, Learning, and Leadership

Teaching, Learning, and Leadership

The Academy of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership offers hands-on exploration of the teaching profession and the development of leadership skills within potential future educators. This program assists in images/Service/hospitalityandtourism.jpg images/Service/ teachinglearningandleadership.png guiding students who want to be teachers or are considering a career in the education profession.

The program articulates with Seminole State College (SSC) and The University of Central Florida (UCF) to provide the support and foundation necessary for success. Students have the opportunity to earn up to 18 college credit hours through dual enrollment courses articulated with SSC. This means that students can save approximately $2,000 on college courses if they earn all 18 credits while in the Academy at Lyman High School. In addition to the college credit earned, students are able to complete all the requirements and applications necessary to qualify for a substitute-teaching certificate through Seminole County Public Schools. Students who are enrolled in the program will also benefit from the unique mentor program established between Lyman High School and UCF.

The Academy of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership is located at Lyman High School and is open to students who have a 3.0 unweighted, cumulative GPA and are zoned for Lyman High School or are eligible for an approved Choices transfer option.
